This presentation will review the birth and lactation practices used by different communities to help resolve acute breast pain and identify traditional postpartum support networks in diverse cultures. The presentation will discuss current research findings on the role of manual techniques in managing maternal acute breast pain (e.g., engorgement, plugged ducts, and mastitis) as well as managing milk supply.
